Restore

On isginf managed servers, restore from tape can be done by our service desk. Please name the files or directories you need to have restored and where to put them if in-place restore is not desired.

Data Consistency

It is important to note that not all data can be backed up consistently:

• Backups of database files of an active database cannot be backed up correctly. To obtain a consistent backup we recommend that you use the dump facility of your database and create a compressed full dump of your database. The resulting file can then be backed up correctly. To make sure that the dump file is backed up during the next night we recommend that you generate the dump using a cron job before 18:00.
• Files that are modified while being copied are not guaranteed to be consistent.
