Daily Snapshots

Additionally to the backup to tape all personal and project data is also copied to a secondary file server every day over night. Several copies are kept and are available to restore data lost only a few days ago.

Organization

The directory structure on the server is as follows:

1. One directory per organizational unit (research group), all lower case.
2. One directory per snapshot with the name indicating the date.
3. One directory per file system of an organizational unit, typically h1 or p1.
4. Directories home and project.

Access by SMB / CIFS

Connect to the server \\restore.inf.ethz.ch\ (Windows) or smb://restore.inf.ethz.ch and authenticate with your ETH user name and ETH password for email.
